District Heating NDT

District heating pipelines are rapidly being installed throughout the UK. The welds used in these thin wall pipelines must be tested to ensure they comply with the necessary standards. We have developed an NDT method specifically for this purpose that offers superior efficiency, accuracy, and safety compared to the traditional alternatives. Our clients can rely on our team to provide results in a less time-consuming and more cost-effective manner. With more than 10 years’ experience in the industry, you can be confident in our expertise. Call 01795 432 634 to arrange our District Heating NDT services.

District Heating NDT: The benefits of our method

We have developed a specialist NDT technique for the inspection of heating pipelines safely, efficiently, and reliably. Our approach has a number of benefits over traditional methods such as Radiography and produces results that can reliably be repeated.

Reliable, repeatable results

Traditional testing methods, such as Ultrasonic Testing, have not been specifically developed for thin wall pipelines. As such, they cannot reliably match the accuracy of the results that our technique produces. We can provide detailed information about the quality and compliance of pipeline welds.

Minimal disruption

Methods such as Radiography, which involve a radioactive source, make it necessary to temporarily cease operations during testing. Our approach eliminates this disruption. There is no need to seek HSE approval or schedule night works – we can carry out our tests onsite whilst your team works.

Reduced risk

Radiography poses a potential safety risk to workers and the general public. We developed our method with safety at the forefront, ensuring that compliance testing for heating pipelines can be carried out without incurring these unnecessary risks.

Versatility

Our pipeline testing method is compatible with other NDT methods, such as Remote Visual Inspection and Liquid Penetrant Inspection. This gives you a comprehensive understanding of the integrity of your welds, allowing you to be completely confident they are compliant.

Your choice of NDT methods

We offer a range of NDT methods to ensure you can receive the appropriate inspection for your testing requirements. You can also receive Destructive Testing through our sister company, S.T & W Laboratories.

Ultrasonic Inspection

Using ultrasonic sound waves, Ultrasonic Inspections obtain internal information from a component.

Visual Inspection

Welds are inspected visually by an expert technician, who can identify any surface discontinuities.

Magnetic Particle Inspection

Using a magnetic field and iron filings, any cracks on the surface of a component will be highlighted using MPI.

Liquid Penetrant Testing

Liquid Penetrant Testing uses a penetrating liquid which contains dye to highlight surface defects.

Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing

Producing a detailed image of a component’s interior, Phased Array is brilliant for testing difficult materials.

Positive Material Identification

Positive Material Identification can assess the composition of material against its specification.

Working with
S.T & W Inspections

At S.T & W Inspections, we offer comprehensive services, from deciding on the NDT technique you require, to offering visual inspection courses for welders. We work to an unwaveringly high standard, and our innovative approach allows us to solve any problems we encounter onsite. Our services ensure your welds are compliant with the relevant standards.

Responsible Welding Co-Ordinators

You can utilise one of our Responsible Welding Co-Ordinators (RWCs) as a resource to check your welding activities are compliant with the standards that apply to your industry. They can check that weld procedures are being followed, can re-qualify welders, and can help to develop new procedures if your welding requirements change.
